Seasonal timing

Around 53 freezing nights a year are enough to split an exposed well head line or an unheated pump house, and the loss shows up as a dead tap rather than a puddle.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

My pump kicks on every few seconds. What causes that?

Usually a pressure tank that has lost its air charge, so there's almost no stored volume between the cut-in and cut-out points. It can also be a stuck pressure switch. Either way the pump is taking the damage, so it's worth stopping rather than living with.

Do I need to test well water, and how often?

Annual testing for bacteria and nitrate is the common recommendation for a private well, plus a retest any time the taste, smell or color changes. Testing is separate from plumbing work. A plumber deals with the pump, the tank and the piping, not the lab result.

Sediment keeps clogging my aerators. Is that the well?

Often, yes. Fine grit from a well can settle in faucet screens and toilet fill valves, and a failing dip tube or corroding heater tank can do the same on city water. Which one it is comes down to whether the debris shows up on the cold side too.

Should I shut the pump off if a pipe bursts?

Yes. Killing power to the pump at the breaker stops the source, which a house valve alone may not do if the break is upstream. Do that first, then worry about which fitting failed. Homes on city water toward Alexander close the main instead, but the order is the same.
