What a pro does

The plumber's opening move on a stopped drain is to find out how many fixtures are involved, because that single fact separates a ten-minute job from a main-line job. He'll run water at several points and listen. A branch clog gets cleared at the fixture or through the nearest cleanout. A main-line clog gets attacked from the outside cleanout with a cable sized to the pipe. Around the ring of towns outside Little Rock two things drive most of the repeat blockages. West toward the Ouachita foothills the ground is shallow and rocky, so old drain lines were laid where the digging allowed rather than at an ideal fall, and any flat section collects grease. East on the delta flats the soil is heavy clay that swells wet and shrinks dry, working joints apart over decades until roots find them. Once flow is back, a camera pass tells the owner which of those he's got. That matters, because roots come back on a schedule and a sagging pipe comes back for good.

Grease. It goes down warm and liquid, then cools on the pipe wall and stays, and every bit of food and coffee ground after it catches on that coating. On an older line with a rough interior the buildup is faster than most households would guess.
The drain side works the same, but harder untreated water leaves more scale on the pipe interior, and scale gives grease something to grip. Nothing about a well changes what goes down; it changes what the inside of the pipe looks like after twenty years.
It's better to skip it on a full blockage. The chemical sits above the plug and does very little, and it leaves caustic water sitting in the pipe the plumber then has to open. If you already used some, say so when you call.
Because clearing a line tells you nothing about why it stopped. The camera shows whether roots came through a joint, whether a section has settled into a low spot, or whether the pipe is simply narrowed with buildup, and each of those points at a different next step.
