Sewer Line Repair
Once waste is surfacing in the yard or coming back indoors soon after a clearing, keep water out of the drains and have the line inspected.
When this becomes an emergency
- A strip of grass over the sewer run staying greener and softer than the rest of the yard.
- Backups returning within weeks of the line being cleared.
- A sewer odor outdoors on still, damp mornings.
- The ground over the line settling into a shallow trough.
What a pro does
No competent sewer repair starts with digging. It starts with a camera run from the cleanout, with a locator on the head so anything found can be marked on the surface within a foot or so. The plumber reads the footage for specific things: root intrusion at the joints, offsets where two lengths have pulled apart, cracks in the barrel of the pipe, plus any water pooling where the line should be draining freely. Ground conditions around Little Rock produce a fair share of all four. Expansive clay through the flatter country east of the city swells and shrinks with the seasons, and that annual movement pulls old clay tile joints apart. Out toward the Ouachita foothills the problem reverses. Shallow rock meant shallow trenches with awkward fall, and a line laid over uneven bedrock settles unevenly. From there the choice is between open excavation on a single defect and a trenchless approach that lines or bursts the existing run through access pits. Grade is the deciding factor. A liner renews a pipe's surface, but nothing except digging fixes a run that no longer falls toward the main.
